Beginning Thanksgiving week and continuing through the
first week of January, the Smithfield Police Department
will participate in Operation
Blue RIPTIDE - a state-wide campaign to
aggressively combat drunk driving. The message is
simple, “You Drink, You Drive, Your Lose.”
The
Smithfield Police Department would like to remind
motorists that if they plan on drinking intoxicating
beverages, they should select a designated driver before
going out. If they feel they have had too much to drink,
they should call a friend or family member to take them
home or spend the night where the activity is being
held.
Citizens are asked to report impaired drivers to law
enforcement authorities by dialing *77 on their cellular
phone.
Finally, please ensure that you
BUCKLE UP - it’s the best defense against
impaired drivers.
