  • On Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 4:30 a.m., Smithfield police responded to Hill Avenue to investigate a report of two males breaking into vehicles. A resident reported that he observed two males enter his vehicle. He confronted them and awaited police arrival. On scene police arrested Derek Beauchemin, age 19, of 10 Sweet Road, Smithfield and Christopher MacPherson, age 18, of 1083 Charles Street, North Providence and transported them to the police station, where they were processed. Police received reports from twelve residents of items being stolen from vehicles in the neighborhood. Police recovered most of the stolen items. Beauchemin was arraigned before Bail Commissioner Joseph Patriarca and released on $1,500 surety bail, and MacPherson was released with a summons. Both are scheduled to appear in District Court on June 25, 2009, to answer 12 counts of larceny from an automobile, four counts of tampering with an automobile and one count of conspiracy.
     

  • On Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 1:38 a.m., Officer Kerrin D’Agnelli stopped a vehicle on Putnam Pike with heavy damage to the driver’s side tires. An investigation revealed that the operator appeared to be intoxicated. On scene, she was given several field sobriety tests—all of which she failed. Officer D’Agnelli arrested Colleen Curley, age 48, of 47 Phillips Lane, Glocester and transported her to the station, where she was processed. She was released with a summons to appear in District Court on July 2, 2009 to answer the charge of driving under the influence of liquor. She is also scheduled to appear before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal on June 8, 2009, to answer the charge of refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test.
     

  • On Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 8:30 p.m., while working the Operation Blue Rip Tide DWI detail, Officer Thomas Coleman stopped a vehicle on Putnam Pike for a motor vehicle violation. During the car stop, he observed the operator throw something out of the vehicle. An investigation revealed that the operator was in possession of crack cocaine. Police arrested Jonathan Garcia, age 26, of 21 Georgia Avenue, Providence and transported him to the police station, where he was processed. He appeared before Bail Commissioner Richard Finnegan and was remanded to the ACI. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on May 26, 2009, to answer the charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver, driving while in possession of a controlled substance and operating without a license.
     

  • On Sunday, May 24, 2009, at 1:46 a.m., Officer Thomas Coleman stopped a vehicle on Douglas Pike for a motor vehicle violation. An investigation revealed that the operator appeared to be intoxicated. On scene, he was given several field sobriety tests—all of which he failed. Officer Coleman arrested Christopher M. DeBerardis of 12 Austin Avenue and transported him to the police station, where he was processed. He was released with a summons to appear in District Court on July 2, 2009, to answer the charge of driving under influence of liquor. He is also scheduled to appear before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal on June 1, 2009, to answer the charges of refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test, speeding, expired registration and refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test.
     

  • On Monday, May 25, 2009, at 12:35 a.m., Sergeant Julio F. Medeiros, stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle violation on Leland Mowry Drive. On scene, the operator appeared to be intoxicated. She was given several field sobriety tests—all of which she failed. Further investigation revealed that the operator was in possession of marijuana. Sergeant Medeiros arrested Lea Poirier, age 21, of 109 Gaskill Street, Woonsocket. She was transported to the station, where she was processed and failed to a pass a breathalyzer test. She appeared before Bail Commissioner Richard Finnegan and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in District Court on June 4, 2009, to answer the charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and driving while in possession of a controlled substance.
     

  • On Monday, May 25, 2009, at 2:45 a.m., Officer Jason Corser stopped a vehicle with heavy damage to the driver’s side and front tire on Pleasant View Avenue. On scene, the operator appeared to be intoxicated. He was given several field sobriety tests—all of which he failed. Officer Corser arrested Daniel Forgue, age 23, of 21 Peace Pipe Trail and transported him to the police station, where he was processed. He appeared before Bail Commissioner Richard Finnegan and was released on $3,000 surety bail. He is scheduled appear in District Court on June 4, 2009 to answer the charge of driving under the influence of liquor. He is also scheduled to appear before the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal for refusal to submit to a breathalyzer-2nd offense and laned roadway violation.
     

  • The Smithfield Police Department’s All Terrain Vehicle Patrol (ATV) routinely patrols restricted areas in Smithfield to reduce the number of off-road vehicles trespassing on private and town property. On Friday, May 8, 2009, at 4:55 p.m., ATV patrol officers observed two vehicles operating in a restricted area. Police arrested Robert A. Noonan, age 24, of 202 Marlow Street, Cranston, and Matthew M. McMahon, age 22, of 22 Westhill Drive, Cranston.  They were released with summonses to appear in District Court on June 8, 2009 to answer the charge of criminal trespassing.
