Smithfield Police Department
Shoulder Patch Information

The Smithfield, Rhode Island police patch shown above is a six-color shoulder patch depicting Smithfield Police Department Headquarters. The patch has been worn since 1973, the year after the station was constructed. The patch was designed by the late Lieutenant Saverio E. Serapiglia, retired Captain Prescott J. Williams II, and retired Deputy Chief James H. McVey. The finished design was prepared by local artist Frank Iafrate who also designed the United States Sea Bee logo.

Anyone wishing to purchase a new patch may do so by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a check or money order for $5.00 for each patch (U.S. funds only), payable to "Smithfield Law Enforcement Explorers" to the following address:

Chief William A. McGarry
Smithfield Police Department
215 Pleasant View Avenue
Smithfield, RI 02917

Attention: Patch Request

All proceeds will support the Smithfield Law Enforcement Explorers program.

Pictured above is the old style Smithfield PD patch that was worn until 1973.  This is the same style patch that was worn by many Rhode Island police departments until the 1970's - only the city or town name on the top of the patch was changed.  This patch is not available for purchase.
